Create Your Own Family Traditions for St. Patrick's Day

pot of gold at the end of the rainbow Being holiday enthusiasts, my husband and I wanted to make St. Patrick's Day stand out for our kids just as much as Thanksgiving or Christmas do. So with that, we sat down to discuss how we are going to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with our kids.

We came up with the idea to have a Lucky Leprechaun sneak into our home, leaving footprints (made easily by stepping into baby powder and stepping onto the floor), and leaving a large paper shamrock in a conspicuous place for your children to find. The shamrock would be the first of many in a scavenger hunt around the house that leads to a paper rainbow with a "pot of gold" at the end filled with chocolate gold coins for our little ones to nibble.

Our children would then be surprised to find that that sneaky leprechaun turned our milk, eggs, and pancakes green! (Simply add a few drops of green food coloring!)

Don't forget to put out green clothes or at least a shamrock to pin on to your children's clothing for the day!

If it's a warm day out and the children are not in school, check to see if there are local parades being held. A trip to the park to search for four-leaf clovers is also a fun activity.

I like to end our St. Patrick's Day with a hearty meal of Corned Beef and Cabbage, and watching Darby O'Gill and the Little People, a highly underrated Disney film about leprechauns!
