Throw a monthly party night to celebrate each member of the family!

I like this idea because it teaches children about individual worth. That each member is vital part of the family. It also helps your children to build their own sense of self-worth and be able to recognize the joy in their lives.

Choose a different guest of honor once a month to celebrate.
You can rotate by age or however you see fit. Don't forget to add yourself and your spouse into the mix! Your children want to celebrate you, too!

The Hot Seat:
Begin the party by having the guest of honor sit in a special seat and have each one of the family members say what they love and appreciate about that person.

Let them choose the menu:
Do they want a barbecue?
Order out for pizza?
Breakfast for dinner?
...Nothing is too crazy for this evening!

Make it truly special:
Serve dinner on a special plate that you only get out for that person on that special night.

Ask the guest of honor what he or she would like to do:
Turn on the music and dance around the living room together.
Play board games. Try having the guest of honor pick out a new board game at the store.
Watch the guest of honor's favorite movie.
Bake and decorate cookies together.

These are only a few suggestions of what you could do on this special night! As you do it, your family will come up with their own traditions. Let it grow and evolve naturally, making it a truly enjoyable and fun time for all.
