Hand Pruning Tools

Late winter and early spring is the ideal time to begin pruning your plants and trees. Pruning is essential for the health of your plant, and can determine its appearance and the quality of fruit it will bear.

Starting with the right tools is essential! We love A.M. Leonard the very best, as they have such incredible quality and the blades in their pruners are typically replaceable. Also be sure to check that they balance well in your hands.

Hand Pruner: This is the most common hand-pruner to find in a gardening toolbox. The proper pruner should fit in the hand well. Meant for smaller pruning.

Lopper: Loppers will cut larger branches that range from 1 inch to 2 inches.

Long-reach: These long-handled pruners are for branches that are higher. For branches that are about 4 feet in height, and 1 inch in diameter.

Pole pruner: These will prune branches up to 18 feet in height, and will cut up to 2-inch diameter branches.

Saws: For much thicker branches from 2"+. The right saw will make your cutting feel nearly effortless.

Hedge Shears: For shaping and trimming shrubbery. Meant for smaller jobs. You may want to consider electrical hedge trimmers for larger jobs.

Helmet, goggles, and heavy-duty gloves: Always recommended at all times while pruning your plants and trees.
