Date Night
With kids in the picture, it's even easier to unintentionally ignore the needs of your spouse. What happens when your children move on and you have an empty nest? Hopefully all of those years spent together in marriage have been spent getting to know each other and strengthening that bond. Because once the children leave, you've still got each other! Men, we encourage you to make date night extra special for your wife. Of course, women are encouraged to help out with planning a weekly date night as well, but for now, let's focus on the gentlemen with some suggestions to surprise your wife by re-buffing your courting prowess and charm! Call your wife with plenty of notice. Ask her out on a formal date as you might have done when you were both single. Give her plenty of time to arrange for a babysitter (maybe even as much as a week in advance). If you do call her the day of, give her plenty of time to get ready. Be prepared to change and get ready yourself. Some men will go to great (and hilarious) lengths to do that before leaving work or the gym. We know some men who will sneak in and out of their own back door, only to race around to the front to pick up their date! Whatever you decide to do, make it special, and set it apart from any other ordinary day at your home. Treat you wife as you did when you were single. Remember how when you were dating, everything they said was interesting and funny? Remember the romance and thrill of holding hands and kissing? Remember actually opening her car door for her? All of these acts of kindness will surely heat up the romance between you two. At The Hip Homemaker, we have compiled some creative dating ideas for you to consider. Don't be intimidated by having to one-up each date, making each one more elaborate or creative. Going to dinner and a movie is just as great of a night out with your sweetheart as anything. The important thing is that you do go out and work on strengthening your bond with your spouse.
